Fatal Crash on SR 430 near mile post 11
Mansfield – The Ohio State Highway Patrol, Mansfield Post, is investigating a one vehicle crash involving a 2016 blue Ford F-150 driven by Gearold L. Smith age 82 of Mansfield. The crash occurred on October 20, 2023 at approximately 5:23PM, when Smith was traveling westbound on SR 430 and failed to negotiate a curve. He traveled off the right side of the road, overcorrected and traveled off the left side of the road striking a tree. Smith was transported by EMS to Ohio Health Mansfield Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
SR 430 was temporarily closed during the crash investigation but is now open for vehicular travel.
Mifflin Twp. Fire and EMS, and Valley’s towing assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under further investigation at this time.
