Fire At Mansfield Westbrook Country Club Damages Roof, Started By Welders

The Mansfield Fire Department responded to a call around 3:20 pm, Tuesday afternoon at the Westbrook Country Club.

Fire Chief, Steve Strickling, said, the fire was in the roof in the new section that is currently under construction. Crews arrived on scene to heavy smoke and flames.

The fire was in the insulation between the roof deck and the shingles. Strickling told WMAN, it was a complicated fire to put out. The fire got started by welders, which were doing some welding on he new section of the Country Club. Heavy damage was done to a small area of the new section of the roof.

One firefighter, who was overtaken by heat, was transported to the hospital. Madison Township and the Air National Guard provided assistance at the scene, while 20-25 off duty personel were also called in. Springmill Street was closed for a number of hours ( still closed as of 8:00 pm on 5/30/23).
