The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on State Route 61 north of State Street in the city limits of Shelby at approximately 7:38 AM Thursday. The crash occurred when a 2014 Ford Edge was southbound on State Route 61, traveled left of center and collided with a 1996 BMW-K1100 motorcycle that was traveling northbound on State Route 61.
The driver of the Ford was 51 year old Kevin Kitzmiller of Shelby, Ohio. Kitzmiller was not injured in the crash and remained at the scene.
The driver of the motorcycle was 81 year old Larry Vredenburgh of Plymouth, Ohio. Vredenburgh sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Shelby Police Department, Shelby Fire and EMS, and the Richland County Coroner's assisted at the scene. State Route 61 was closed for approximately three hours.
Alcohol and drugs are not factor in the crash.
